The Gokyo Lakes Trek is the spectacular alternative to Everest Base Camp—offering equally stunning views with fewer crowds. This journey takes you through the heart of the Khumbu Valley to a chain of six sacred turquoise lakes, culminating with the climb up Gokyo Ri (5,357m) for one of the most iconic panoramas in the Himalayas: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu—four of the world's six highest peaks—in a single view.

Fly to Lukla, Trek to Phakding
Thrilling flight to Lukla. Easy trek along the Dudh Kosi River.
Trek to Namche Bazaar
Cross suspension bridges and climb to Namche Bazaar.
Acclimatization Day in Namche
Essential acclimatization. Hike to Everest View Hotel.
Trek to Dole
Trek through rhododendron forest to Dole.
Trek to Machhermo
Continue ascending through sparse forest.
Trek to Gokyo
Pass the first and second Gokyo lakes. Arrive at the third lake.
Climb Gokyo Ri, Explore Lakes
Pre-dawn climb to Gokyo Ri for stunning panorama of four 8,000m peaks.
Cross Cho La Pass (Optional) to Dragnak
Optional: Cross the Cho La Pass to connect with the EBC trail.
Trek to Gorak Shep (if crossing Cho La)
Trek to Gorak Shep. If not crossing Cho La, descend to Dole.
Visit EBC or Descend to Dole
Visit Everest Base Camp or continue descent from Gokyo.
Trek to Namche
Long descent through familiar terrain to Namche Bazaar.
Trek to Lukla
Final trek day. Descend to Lukla.
Fly to Kathmandu
Morning flight back to Kathmandu.
Safety Information
High altitude with significant AMS risk. Cho La Pass adds technical challenge. Emergency helicopter evacuation available.
