
Wonderland Trail
Overview
The Wonderland Trail circumnavigates Mount Rainier — the most heavily glaciated peak in the contiguous US — through wildflower meadows, old-growth forests, and stunning river valleys. This 93-mile loop gains over 22,000 feet of elevation and crosses numerous glaciers and suspension bridges. It's one of America's premier long-distance trails, offering ever-changing views of Rainier's massive volcanic bulk.

Longmire to Kautz Creek
Start at Longmire. Climb through old-growth forest to Kautz Creek camp. First views of Rainier's south face.
Kautz Creek to Golden Lakes
Climb through meadows to Golden Lakes with stunning Rainier reflections. Cross Kautz Creek.
Golden Lakes to Mowich Lake
Descend through meadows to Mowich Lake. Glacial views and wildflowers.
Mowich Lake to Carbon River
Descend through forest to Carbon River. Cross the river and camp in old-growth forest.
Carbon River to Carbon River Camp
Short day along the Carbon River. Explore Carbon Glacier terminus.
Carbon River Camp to Spray Creek
Climb through forest and meadows to Spray Creek camp with mountain views.
Spray Creek to Sunrise Camp
Traverse to Sunrise area — the most popular viewpoint of Rainier. Alpine meadows and wildflowers.
Sunrise Camp to White River
Descend to White River through stunning alpine terrain.
White River to Maple Valley
Climb through forest to Maple Valley. Last stretch before returning to Longmire.
Maple Valley to Longmire
Final descent through forest back to Longmire. Celebration time.
